色色研究所 Center Austria Hosts Talk on "Patriotic Shopping"
Founded in 1997, Center Austria is a research and discourse hub for Austrian and European Studies at 色色研究所 and in New Orleans Center Austria. The intellectual center advances understanding of Austrian and Central European culture through scholarly and artistic activities and academic partnerships. Director Guenther Bischof says that Center Austria strives to be theintellectual hub on the University campus.
The center hosts "Patriotic Shopping: A Comparative Perspective on the Call to 'Buy National' in the 20th Century," at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1 in the Liberal Arts Lounge, Room 197.
Oliver Kuhschlelm, a scholar and assistant professor of economic and social history at the University of Vienna will speak. His research interests lie in social and economic history in general and the history of consumption and advertising in particular, specifically national identities in product communication, as well as links between consumption and economic nationalism.
Kushchlelm is the author of many essays and edited volumes, among them Memoria Austriae III. Unternehmer, Firmen, Produkte, to which he contributed a number of chapters on Austrian businesses and entrepreneurs.
