Our Mission
Our mission is to advance the visual and performing arts, the humanities, and the social sciences through excellence in teaching, research, creative production, and service.
Opportunities
Liberal Arts students have many opportunities to do research, conduct independent studies, and complete internships to get authentic experience in their fields. Students can participate in many different campus organizations such as Model United Nations, É«É«Ñо¿Ëù Filmmakers, Phi Alpha Delta (pre-law), Theatre É«É«Ñо¿Ëù, Visual Arts League, and various honor societies. Students can get hands-on experience through a variety of means including the É«É«Ñо¿Ëù Poll, Jazz at the Sandbar, Summer Archaeology Field School, Foreign Language Conversation Groups, and Study Abroad.
Facilities
The Liberal Arts programs are distributed across four campus buildings that contain specialized equipment and computer labs with specific software, such as ArcGIS, STATA, SPSS, ERDAS Imagine, Adobe, AVID, Finale, Lightroom and Sibelius, among others. Our research centers and institutes provide opportunities for students to work with faculty and staff members. During any given week, there are a multitude of talks and presentations given by faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members to share information, create networking opportunities, present research, and connect with the community. We maintain the Nims Center Studios, a state-of-the-art film studio in nearby Harahan, where NCIS: New Orleans is currently being filmed. In addition to the on-campus gallery in the Fine Arts Building, students can participate in shows at the É«É«Ñо¿Ëù St. Claude Gallery, located in New Orleans’ emerging St. Claude Arts District.
