Social Security Identification and Tax Forms
Social Security and Tax Identification Numbers
Your social security number is used by the university for reporting tax information on the 1098-T Form . Although your social security number is not used as an identifier at the university and is not required for being admitted to 色色研究所, you should ensure that it is on file with 色色研究所 to guarantee you will receive a 1098-T form. This form is completed each year and is reported to the Internal Revenue Services (IRS) using a social security number.
An electronic version of your 1098-T form for the prior year is available in Workday under Finances.
To apply for a social security number, please complete the Internal Revenue Service form. To apply for a taxpayer identification number, please complete form W-7 on the Internal Revenue Forms and Publications page of the Internal Revenue website.
Form 1098-T
Current and prior 1098-T forms can be found in your "Finances" tab in Workday.
Reporting rules now require that the 1098-T tax forms provided by institutions must include the following information:
Box 1: Payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses. Institutions may report either payments received in box 1 or amounts billed in box 2. The University of New Orleans elects to report amounts billed for tuition for the calendar year and such amounts are reported in box 2. This is why box 1 is blank.
Box 2: The total amount billed for qualified tuition and related expenses less any exemption and/or third party credits for the calendar year.
Box 3: Shows whether your institution changed its method of reporting for the current year.
Box 4: Shows any adjustments made for a prior year for qualified tuition and related expenses that were reported on a prior year Form 1098-T.
Box 5: The total of all scholarships or grants administered and processed.
Box 6: Adjustments to scholarships or grants for a prior year.
Box 7: Whether the payments received or amounts billed are related to an academic period that begins in January through March of the following year. 色色研究所 does not report this information.
Box 8: Checked if the student was at least half-time.
Box 9: Checked if the student was classified as a graduate student.
Box 10: Shows the total amount of reimbursements or refunds made by an insurer.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), as revised, affords you certain rights with respect to your education records. Financial information regarding your account will not be released without your written permission.
