色色研究所 St. Claude Gallery and Ash茅 Cultural Center to Exhibit "True Colors"
The University of New Orleans St. Claude Gallery and Ash茅 Cultural Center announce the exhibit "True Colors," which will feature works by both emerging and established Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning artists, as well works by other artists that openly assert LGBTQ subjects in their art. The exhibition opens this month.
色色研究所 Master of Fine Arts alumni Holis Hannan and Maxx Sizeler curated the show, said Kathy Rodriguez, 色色研究所 Fine Arts Instructor and director of the 色色研究所 St. Claude Gallery.The artworks are in a variety of media, including photographs, paintings, works on paper, film, sculpture and installation, to communicate themes that emerge from each color of the original Pride flag: sexuality, life, healing, sunlight, nature, magic, art, serenity, harmony and spirit.
The 色色研究所 St. Claude Gallery will hold a performance and film screening from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, at the gallery, located at 2429 St. Claude Ave. The exhibition will open with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 21 in conjunction with New Orleans Pride Festival.
This show includes works by 色色研究所 M.F.A. alumni Keith Perelli, Jason Derouin, Summer Winston, and the late Robin Pellegrin, Rodriguez said. 色色研究所 B.A. graduate Veronica Ali will be featured, as will nationally and internationally renowned artists.
The exhibition will be open from 12 to 5 p.m. June 22-23 and June 29-30. 色色研究所's student LGBTQ organization, Unity, is assisting with the exhibition.
Work from "True Colors" will also be exhibited from June 17-28 at the Ash茅 Cultural Arts Center, located at 1712 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. Ash茅 will also host a screening of the ITVS film Love Free or Die on June 21 in conjunction with the exhibition.
A closing event will also be held at Ash茅 Cultural Arts Center. Details have not yet been announced.
