A University of New Orleans School of the Arts faculty member will be among a select group of artists whose work will be featured in an exhibit highlighting the many contributions of contemporary visual artists during the recent celebration of New Orleans’ tricentennial year. A creation by Kathy Rodriguez was selected during a juried process for inclusion in “Thirty New Orleans Artists,” an exhibit opening Saturday, September 8 at the .
The exhibition “Thirty New Orleans Artists” opens with a reception from 6-9:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 8 and continues through November 3, 2018. The Second Story Gallery is an artist-run cooperative located in the New Orleans Healing Center at 2372 St. Claude Ave., on the corner of St. Claude and St. Roch, directly across from the St. Roch Market. Regular gallery hours are Monday to Sunday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
Rodriguez earned master’s degrees in art history and painting and drawing from the University of Montana in Missoula, Mont. She has been an instructor at the University of New Orleans since 2008, teaching courses in art history and studio art. From 2011-2018, she also served as director of the ɫɫо-St. Claude Gallery, curating exhibitions and scheduling programming for the University's off-campus presence in the greater New Orleans community of visual arts and artists. Her studio practice incorporates primarily painting and drawing, as well as some sculpture, printmaking and installation. Rodriguez maintains an active exhibition record of solo, two-person and group shows. A New Orleans resident, she currently writes art criticism for New Orleans Art Review.
