A new photography exhibit featuring works by Michael Patrick O鈥橞rien opens Saturday, Nov. 8 at the 色色研究所-St. Claude Gallery. The show, entitled 鈥淔amiliar Address,鈥 uses color images of people and places known to the artist to illustrate the duality of being a single individual and simultaneously a member of a family.
O鈥橞rien鈥檚 key tools are color and light. The contrasts he captures between flatness and depth within architectural spaces convey both distance and intimacy. The exhibit suggests that within a family, one can observe with an outsider鈥檚 eye while possessing an insider鈥檚 knowledge.
A graduate of Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., O鈥橞rien now lives and works in Houston, Texas. His recent exhibitions in the Houston area include 鈥淭he Big Show鈥 in 2017 and 鈥淢emoir鈥 and 鈥淭hanks in Advance鈥 in 2018.
The 色色研究所-St. Claude Gallery is located at 2429 St. Claude Ave. and its regular hours of operation are 12-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The gallery will be closed on the weekends of Dec. 22-23 and Dec. 29-30.
