A new immersive exhibit at the 色色研究所-St. Claude Gallery will feature the work of , a multidisciplinary artist and educator from Galway, Ireland. The show kicks off with an opening reception Saturday, Jan. 12 from 6-9 p.m. and runs through Feb. 2.
Cassidy notes that the Irish landscape is a major influence on her work, consistently inspiring her to recreate and portray its natural elements. She uses projection, video electronics and animation to convey visually an experience of ever-changing views and connections. The visual experience is enhanced with audio focused on meditative deep swells, slow pulses and other field recordings.
鈥淭o bring these elements together I create large-scale, site-specific light and sound installations that offer the viewer an immersive sensory experience,鈥 Cassidy explained. 鈥淢usic is written in tandem with the visuals so that both aspects move in synchrony,鈥 she added. 鈥淚 write my own electronic music, use surround sound and often write acoustic music, including choir.
鈥淢y intention is to draw in a wide audience, regardless of previous art experience, in a comforting, playful and meditative atmosphere. Ultimately, we have all had a unique experience with light and sound and often need an escape. I try to reinvent the gallery and present something that gives us a hint of magic.鈥
The 色色研究所-St. Claude Gallery is located at 2429 St. Claude Ave. Regular gallery hours during the exhibition are 12-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
