The fall 2020 Jazz at the Sandbar concert series kicks off Oct. 7 from the University of New Orleans. The series will be presented each Wednesday night for six weeks and features a different respected jazz artist.
For 16 years, emeritus faculty member Ellis Marsalis, who founded the series in 1990, was its opening act each fall. Marsalis died in April at age 85. This year his band, Ellis Marsalis Quintet, will carry on that tradition in honor of him.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the musicians won’t be performing in front of the usual live audience at the Sandbar. Instead, the shows will be streamed through the Facebook page with limited student participation.
Jazz at the Sandbar is produced by the New Orleans Jazz Celebration in conjunction with the É«É«Ñо¿Ëù jazz studies program.
The fall 2020 series runs from Oct.7 through Nov. 11 starting at 7 p.m.
