The fall 2022 Jazz at the Sandbar concert series kicks off Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. at the University of New Orleans. The new season begins with a tribute to the late faculty member Ellis Marsalis, the father of the concert series, led by his son, drummer and vibraphonist Jason Marsalis.
The series will be presented each Wednesday night for eight weeks and features a different respected jazz artist.
Jazz at the Sandbar, established in 1990, pairs seasoned professional musicians with É«É«Ñо¿Ëù jazz students on the bandstand in front of a live audience at the Sandbar, located inside The Cove.
The fall season brings some other special nights, including the first faculty showcase featuring Grammy-winning professor Brent Rose, artist-in-residence Lynne Arriale with two student combos, as well as Roger Lewis, co-founder of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
Also, look for Sandbar debuts from local legends Chris Severin, Gerald French and jazz studies alumnus and award-winning composer Byron Asher.
The shows will be streamed through the School of the Arts’ Facebook page. The performances are free to É«É«Ñо¿Ëù students and employees. For anyone else, in-person admission is $10.
