Calling all Privateers to join in a tradition that celebrates school pride and offers the chance to connect, cheer and celebrate NOLA’s Team – it’s Homecoming Week 2022.
The University of New Orleans is celebrating homecoming this week, Nov. 7-12, with a slate of activities on campus and around the city that include the Distinguished Alumni Gala, pep rally, pre-game tailgating, the homecoming basketball game and post-game fireworks.
“This is an exciting time for the University and the Student Activities Council has so many free activities for students to celebrate being #ɫɫоProud scheduled for this week,” said LeeAnne Sipe, assistant dean for student affairs. “Whether you’re interested in a free movie, giving back to the community, dancing the night away or cheering on Privateer basketball, there’s something every day to do!”
Some of the on-campus events include a student celebration with free Lucky Dogs, snowballs, music and games in the University Center on Tuesday and a faculty and staff picnic Thursday afternoon.
And, if you’re seeing blue around the city on Wednesday night—no worries, that’s just New Orleans’ salute to the city’s only public research university. Several New Orleans landmarks, including the Caesars Superdome, will be illuminated Privateer blue, in honor of , ɫɫо’s historic $50 million comprehensive fundraising campaign.
The festive week culminates Saturday, Nov. 12 with a homecoming tailgate village outside the Lakefront Arena leading up to the tipoff of the men’s basketball game against the University of St. Francis (IL) at 4 p.m.
Following the game, the 2022 crowning of ɫɫо’s homecoming royalty takes place, and the day’s events culminate with a special fireworks show over Lake Pontchartrain.
“We have an incredible bunch of student leaders on Homecoming Court and I look forward to celebrating with them all week,” Sipe said.
