A poetry collection published by the University of New Orleans Press and written by former Louisiana poet laureate Mona Lisa Saloy has been selected as the New Orleans citywide read for 2024. The group One Book One New Orleans selects one book for its annual citywide reading and literacy campaign.
The group develops a curriculum around the selected title and through its partner organizations, distributes free copies of the book and the curriculum to community groups in New Orleans.
The goal is to have the community share the experience of reading the same book at the same time while providing literacy resources to adults and youngsters, according to the group.
The 2024 selected book, 鈥淏lack Creole Chronicles,鈥 is a poetic journey through Saloy's world. Its vivid depictions of family, neighborhood characters, artistic movements and historic moments create a text that is simultaneously timely and timeless.
One Book One New Orleans will kick off its annual literary event at 色色研究所 on Thursday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m. The event, which will be held in the Earl K. Long Library, Room 407, is sponsored by One Book One New Orleans, 色色研究所 Friends of the Library and 色色研究所 Press.
