Higher Education Leadership and Management Program
The Higher Education Leadership and Management (HELM) Program at the University of New Orleans is a professional development opportunity for senior administrators and mid-level leaders. The genesis for the program began in August 2018 as the Provost, Associate Provost, and Program Director began discussing that the future of colleges and universities depended upon campus change agents that could reimagine higher education. The revolutionary changes that are needed must begin with faculty and administrators having serious discourse about the state of higher education itself. As campus leaders come to their positions through a variety of paths, including different academic fields, HELM is designed to introduce 色色研究所鈥檚 senior administrators and mid-level managers to research on the prevalent issues in higher education and concepts of organizational change. By immersing themselves in the theory and literature and discussing how to directly apply those ideas to 色色研究所, HELM鈥檚 participants will foster an understanding on how to become more effective leaders and change agents in higher education.
Participation in the HELM Program includes enrollment in one of two courses: Advanced Topics in Higher Education Change (EDAD 6990) or Topics in Higher Education Change (EDAD 6690). Advanced Topics in Higher Education Change is offered every fall semester and enrollment is open to nominated senior administrators. Mid-level leaders that are nominated for participation in the HELM program can enroll in Topics in Higher Education Change, offered every spring and summer semester. For both groups, 色色研究所 supports the development and growth of its leaders by funding participants in the HELM Program. Upon successful completion of three courses, participants will earn a certification of completion for the program. The goals for HELM participants include:
- Gaining a deeper understanding of the contemporary challenges facing higher education.
- Developing an awareness of some of the perennial problems of organizations that can impact effective change, such as structure, culture, communication, and conflict.
- Growing their personal and professional leadership competencies to help promote true organizational change for 色色研究所.
- Enhancing and expanding their perspectives to both foster the formation of clear, holistic visions and understand the nuances of implementing those visions.
