Graduate Studies in English Graduate Assistantships
Applications for assistantships should be submitted no later than February 23.
Graduate assistantships with the Department of English and Foreign Languages usually begin in the fall and continue through the spring. Four types of graduate assistantships are available:
- Teaching positions in the First-Year Composition program
- Tutoring positions in the Writing Center
- Research assistantships with individual faculty members and with our graduate literary journal, Beyond the Margins
- Service positions (administrative support) in the Department
GA positions are competitive, so apply early!
Depending on the position, graduate assistants work 10 or 20 hours per week. All graduate assistants receive a waiver of the non-resident fee (as applicable) and a stipend. Teaching and tutoring positions also include a tuition waiver.
To qualify for a teaching position, students must first complete eighteen hours of credit toward the master鈥檚 degree. Each first-year teaching associate receives guidance from a faculty mentor and the Coordinator of First-Year Writing.
